The position of Director of the Nordic Centre in India is now available. We are looking for a person with a Ph.D. and/or with extensive research experience. The successful candidate should have good knowledge of the South Asian region, and should be able to document research and/or employment in South Asia. Furthermore, as the position involves liaison activities and administration, we are looking for a person with administrative experience and interests. The Director may be based in the Nordic region, but will be required to spend 6 weeks or more in India every year. Thus, skills in both English and in a Scandinavian language are required. The position as Director is currently a part time position, covering 25% workload. Salary to be negotiated depending on seniority and on qualifications.
A Nordic consortium designated “the Nordic Centre in India” was formally established in 2001. This consortium forms a collaborative non-profit organization for Nordic educational and research activities directed to India. The primary long-term purpose of the Nordic Centre in India is to improve the quality of knowledge about South Asia in the Nordic countries by formalizing and extending collaboration with relevant institutions in India and South Asia in various fields. Through a Nordic Centre located in India, the consortium will support activities undertaken by faculties at Nordic member universities, colleges and other organizations. The Nordic Centre in India supports Nordic-South Asian institutional collaboration with the aim of benefiting both students and researchers with academic interests in South Asia. A board with eight members from member institutions is elected once a year at the General assembly meeting, and the Director reports to the board.
